The Quest for The One Right Way

The Quest for The One Right Way

If a world is in constant search for the One Right Way, power may become corrupt, and individual lives meaningless to those who control the resources. The One Right Way may become the ultimate goal, leaving behind the importance of nurturing, love, healthy communities & healthy ecosystems.

A Look at Freedom

A Look at Freedom

Inside each one of us is a desire for freedom. Yet, for most, there is a lack of understanding of what that yearning even translates into.

Happy Holidays: A Look at Gift-Giving

I’m still unclear if it is appropriate to say “Merry Christmas” anymore, or if I should choose the generic-yet-thoughtful “Happy Holidays” as I move about the world.

Starr’s Theory of Why Quitting Smoking Can Be So Hard

As long as we continue to maintain a society that values money over life and being right over being happy, smoking will be attractive to our subconscious.

Karaoke Funeral

Karaoke Funeral

Now, please don’t think I am heartless. A guy died. That is sad. He was apparently very loved and adored – was a KJ himself, and the bar was full of the people who’s lives he had touched in his work. He was only 37. I am sorry for the loss in his community. But I wanted my Karaoke Night, dammit! I wanted fun, and laughter, and connection, and screaming over loud music!

Portland with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

I loved so many things about the show. I loved that Macklemore took the time to talk to us, tell us stories, and do his crowd magic. I loved the balance between mixing it up and keeping it real. I loved the encore!

Using Force – My Karate Advent...

Using Force – My Karate Adventure

What has been most interesting for me to look at have been my own stories around using my body forcefully, and what is appropriate for “girls” to do. I still have the thought that “I don’t wanna hurt anybody!” So while my body is getting a work-out, and there have been some days of very sore muscles, it is also a spiritual practice; an opportunity to look at any old stories that may be holding me back from stepping into my true power.

Imagining Better

Imagining Better

There is an inner knowing that all is well, I am right where I should be, and that good and more good is already mine. Now, don’t get me wrong – I love my life. I have great relationships with my family and friends, a great community I consider myself an important part of, and lots of talents and skills that do will continue to serve me and my planet well. I do, however, know that there is always more good to experience. That since the Universe is infinite, then so can my experience of it and its good be.

Making Sense

Making Sense

Smokey the Bear is known to say, “Only you can prevent forest fires.” Well fear is just like a forest fire, and it can only burn you up and move on to the next victim if you let it. This Year, this Season, this Holiday, give the gift of your love, of your diverse beauty and creativity, and of your open heart, free from fear and anger. Be present for your family and friends, reminding them of what you appreciate about them. Give your unique gifts that help you to feel that bright light that is always you.

Boycotting Black Friday

Boycotting Black Friday

All over the planet we hear cries for freedom, and then in our wealthy country we get mad if we have to spend an extra dollar on something that a six-year-old went blind to make us. When we truly get how large our individual impact is on the world we are creating together, I can’t imagine anyone getting excited over choosing spending money on things over spending quality time with people.

One’s “Ick” Is Ano...

One’s “Ick” Is Another’s “Art”

As our world faces some very real choices in moving forward as a species, I wonder if each of us are willing on an individual basis to look at where we have judged “ick.” Are we willing to shift to an “art” perspective? And, if not, are we at least willing to “accept” that our point of view isn’t the only valid one? I believe that as we do this, we are participating in healing the entire planet, starting with ourselves. To me, that is the ultimate “Art.”

Feeling Bad for Feeling Good?!

Feeling Bad for Feeling Good?!

here I am, in the middle of this awesome life. And yet, even as I type, there is this ingrained part of me that says I can’t feel all the way good about all of my good. Or that somehow by proclaiming my gratitude for all of this goodness, that I am “rubbing it in” for those who may not be experiencing as much good right now. What kind of crap is that?!

A Rant

A Rant

I forget, okay. I live in Portland, Oregon, where the majority of people are very concerned about the future of the planet and our ability to shift it toward health and equality for future generations. Where even most of those who don’t care at least acknowledge that there is something to care about. And then there are people who I bump into on social networks.
